How Long Does Interior Painting and Decorating Take?

Painting several rooms can take a few days, while a full property redecoration or extensive preparation takes longer. A wall refresh is less involved than decorating ceilings, doors and skirting too. Filling, sanding, bare plaster and substantial colour changes all add work. We will give you a timescale based on the actual rooms and surfaces.

Drying time also needs to be allowed between coats. For a larger project, we can plan the work room by room so you know which areas will be in use and when furniture can be moved back.

How much does it cost to Repair and Repaint Water Stains?

There is no VAT applicable to our published rates. However, in some cases we may need to use VAT-registered providers,
in which case VAT will be applied where applicable. We will always notify you at the time of booking if this applies.

What to Expect When We Decorate Your Home

The finish depends on the surface underneath. Before painting, we check the walls, ceilings and woodwork for loose paint, damage and stains, then work through the preparation and decorating in the right order.

We check the existing surfaces

We look for flaking paint, cracks, holes and areas where the existing finish has failed. Water stains or damp patches need their cause checking before decoration. If the plaster needs more than minor filling, we explain the repair required first.

The room is protected

Floors, furniture and nearby fittings are covered before preparation begins. Small items should be moved out of the way where possible. Larger furniture can often stay in the room if there is enough space to work around it and protect it properly.

Holes and cracks are made good

Minor holes and cracks are filled, uneven repairs are smoothed and loose material is removed. Areas that need sanding are prepared before the dust is cleared away. This gives the new paint a sound surface to adhere to.

Bare areas are prepared for paint

Bare plaster, exposed timber and repaired areas may need a suitable first coat or primer before the finish is applied. We use preparation appropriate to the surface and chosen paint, rather than applying the same product to every part of the room.

Walls, ceilings and woodwork are painted

We paint the surfaces included in the job, taking care around corners, frames and adjoining finishes. Paint is applied evenly, with drying time between coats. Doors, skirting and other woodwork receive the finish chosen for those surfaces.

We check the finish and clear up

Once the work is complete, we check the painted areas and tidy the room. We will explain when the paint is ready for normal use and anything to bear in mind before placing furniture against it or cleaning the surface.

Other Work We Can Complete Alongside Decorating

A room may need repairs before painting, or a few finishing jobs afterwards. We can coordinate the related work so you do not have to arrange each trade separately.

We can also help with:

Mention the complete job when you enquire. For example, we can repair a damaged wall, decorate the room and arrange for fittings to be put up once the finish is ready.

Customer Testimonals

Very pleased with decorating job. The quality was excellent and the decorator worked efficiently to get the job done in good time. Turned up when they said they would and they were happy to rearrange at short notice when we had a family illness.

Ben did a great job of checking for all possible electrical problems behind the oven and in the fuse box. He explained everything clearly and cleared up afterwards. Very happy with his professionalism.

Really handy services. Needed help from a gas safe engineer as well as an electrician for a combined job and it was handy that both could be booked for me in the same time via the booking office. Both Ben and Colin did a great job!

How We Make It Easy

Interior Painting and Decorating FAQs

Yes. We can decorate one room or several, including smaller jobs such as refreshing a ceiling or repainting woodwork. Larger projects are quoted after we have assessed the preparation and painting involved.

Yes, minor filling forms part of the preparation where needed. Loose plaster, deeper damage or recurring cracks may need further repair. We check these areas before painting and explain any additional work.

Yes. Let us know the brand, colour, finish and quantity before the job. The paint needs to suit the surface, and there must be enough for the required coats. We can also discuss supplying the materials.

Yes, although a strong colour change may need additional preparation or coats to achieve even coverage. Send photos and tell us the new colour when enquiring so we can allow for that work.

We include the surfaces listed in the quote or booking. Tell us if you want ceilings, doors, frames and skirting painted as well as walls, as these add preparation and painting time.

Please remove small items and clear as much space as possible. Larger furniture can often remain if it can be moved away from the walls and covered. Tell us about anything heavy or difficult to move beforehand.

Yes, once the plaster is dry and ready for decoration. The surface needs a suitable initial treatment for the paint being used. Painting too soon can affect the finish, so drying time needs to be allowed first.

Yes, once the leak has been repaired and the affected area has dried. Any damaged plaster needs making good and the stain may need sealing before repainting to prevent it showing through the new finish.

Smaller decorating jobs may be charged at an hourly rate. Larger room or property redecorations are usually quoted in advance. The price reflects preparation, the surfaces being painted and the materials needed.
