How Long Does It Take to Install a Water Butt?

Most water butt installations take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the type of water butt and how the downpipe needs to be adapted. A straightforward installation, where the downpipe is easy to access and the water butt can be positioned close by, is usually completed within this time.

If an existing water butt needs refitting or reconnecting, the timing is often similar. Jobs can take a little longer where adjustments are needed to the downpipe, the ground needs levelling to keep the butt stable, or fittings need replacing. We will always advise on timing when booking so you know what to expect on the day.

How much does it cost to Install a Water Butt?

There is no VAT applicable to our published rates. However, in some cases we may need to use VAT-registered providers,
in which case VAT will be applied where applicable. We will always notify you at the time of booking if this applies.

What to Expect When We Install Your Water Butt

Water butt installation is a straightforward job, but it needs to be done properly so rainwater flows correctly and the butt stays stable once full. The work is carried out carefully to avoid leaks and make sure everything functions as intended.

Checking the location and downpipe

We start by checking the position of the downpipe and where the water butt will sit. This helps make sure there is enough space and that the butt can be positioned securely on level ground.

Preparing the downpipe

The downpipe is adapted as needed to allow rainwater to divert into the water butt. This is done neatly so water flows correctly into the butt while excess water continues down the pipe once it is full.

Connecting and positioning the water butt

The water butt is positioned and connected securely to the downpipe using suitable fittings. We make sure it is stable, level, and aligned properly so it fills evenly and is easy to access.

Testing the setup

Once installed, we check that water flows into the butt as it should and that there are no leaks around the connections. Any adjustments needed are made before we leave.

Final checks and tidy up

After testing, the area is left tidy and the water butt ready to use. We are happy to answer any questions about using or maintaining it before we go.

Ben did a great job of checking for all possible electrical problems behind the oven and in the fuse box. He explained everything clearly and cleared up afterwards. Very happy with his professionalism.

Really handy services. Needed help from a gas safe engineer as well as an electrician for a combined job and it was handy that both could be booked for me in the same time via the booking office. Both Ben and Colin did a great job!
